Domain is the distinguished part of an abstract or physical space where something exists, is performed, or valid. For example, we may talk about: domain of interest, domain of activity. This concept is used in every branch/sector/field of human activity.
   It also has several meanings:

General

Places

  • The Domain, a shopping mall in Austin, Texas, USA
  • in several Commonwealth countries, the name for parkland made available for public use by the monarch or their representative, the Governor. Examples include:
  • The Domain Tunnel, Melbourne: a tunnel that runs underneath the Yarra River and the Kings Domain in Victoria, Australia

  • synonymous with a metaphorical field, for example "the domain of computer science"

  • Domain name, Internet domain name (most frequently ending on .com)
  • a Windows Server domain, a centrally-managed group of computers using the Windows operating-system
  • a broadcast domain in computer networking
  • an application domain - the kinds of purposes for which users use a software system
